A Podcast About Encouragement

Take Spiritual Vitamin C

Letter

Building One Another

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

I Thessalonians 5:11

Take Spiritual Vitamin C

Dear Friend,

I love I Thessalonians 2:13 because it describes what God’s word does in our lives:

"We  give thanks to God for this, that when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it

not as a human word but as what it really is, God's word, which is also at work in you believers."*

God’s word is soul food and is essential for our spiritual well-being.

Consider Vitamin C -- your body doesn’t store it up. You need a constant intake of Vitamin C for health. The sailors of old learned to take citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and limes on their trips so they wouldn’t be afflicted with scurvy which comes of Vitamin C deficiency.

In a similar way, we can experience a word of God deficiency if we aren’t constantly taking it into our hearts and minds, trusting it to do its wonderful work in our lives.

Do you have a daily pattern of Bible reading? If not, why not begin this holy habit today? Read a Psalm each day and a chapter of the Old Testament (perhaps beginning with I Samuel) and a chapter of the New Testament (perhaps beginning with Luke). A helpful practice is to jot the date by the margin next to each passage as you read it.

“For, the word of God is living and active.” Hebrews 4:12a*

Show Notes

Since God's word is actually at work in you as read it, then how serious are you about taking that word into your life? How do you go about doing it now?

The suggestion here is read a Psalm a day along with a chapter of the Old Testament and a chapter of the New Testament. However, if every day doesn't work for you or the time to read three sections a day is too long, then decide when you will read scripture and what you will read - and do it. You will find your heart encouraged!

When you jot the date in the margin of your Bible when you read a passage, you may also jot down significant moments such as birthdays, graduations, special moments and your Bible will become a diary of your life.

About the Podcast
