Love is Surrender

Dear Friend,

This week we begin the spring season of the church year known as Lent which ends with Easter. The Carpenter’s used to sing, “Love is Surrender,” and Lent is a wonderful time to surrender deeply to the love and will of the Lord who loves you!

I encourage you to travel the days of Lent this year in a spirit of surrender to the Lord who loves you. Here are some well-known prayers to help you.

“Lord, I am no longer my own, but yours. Put me to what you will. Rank me with whom you will. Let me be employed by you or laid aside for you, exalted for you or brought low by you. Let me have all things. Let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to your pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, andHoly Spirit, you are mine and I am yours. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be confirmed in heaven. Amen.” Covenant prayer of John Wesley

“Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.” Spirit of the Living God – Daniel Inverson

“Lord, I am yours; I do yield myself up entirely to you, and I believe that you do take me. I leave myself with you. Work in me all the good pleasure of your will and I will only lie still in your hands and trust you.” Hannah Whitall Smith.

“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”Jesus  Luke 22:42

Pray these prayers or your own prayers of surrender a few times a day during Lent, such upon waking, upon going to bed, and during the day. You will experience the love and forgiveness of our Lord in new and refreshing ways!

Show Notes

1. Think of a moment in your life when you surrendered yourself to God's will and God's love. What was happening in your life at the time? What happened through your surrender to your Lord?

2. Decide that this Lent - from now through Easter - that you will pray prayers of surrender every day - as a way of more deeply entrusting yourself to the Lord who loves you. When Jesus surrendered himself to the will and love of God the Father, he opened himself to the love of God flowing into him and through him to countless others!
